DIFFERENT WAYS MATHS IS OFTEN USED IN THE KITCHEN-
When I ask my mom the secret ingredient to some of the dishes she makes, she smiles and happily replies,"love", but we all know that the secet ingredient is following the recipe to the tea. We might not realise this, but we use maths in the kitchen everyday and in every way imaginable. Here are a few ways we use maths in the kitchen everyday-
Evolution of a substance-
when a pizza changes its shape from a circle to a triangle. These triangles, however have the same volume and mass when they are added to each other as the original circular pizza.
Even when we are making a roti, its shape is constantly evolving as we take the irregular atta, flatten it,make it into a circle and cook it on the gas stove.

The right temperature
Having the right temperature while cooking or baking is extremely important. when we bake a cake or cook meat, the temperature and time we cook them for play a huge factor in their taste, texture and presentation.

The right measurement
we all know how important it is to have the right weight/measurement while you are cooking and baking. ingredients are usually measured by cups, teaspoons or by litres or weight(in grams), a pinch usually refers to 1/3rd of a teaspoon

In what way is mathematics useful for grocery shopping?
well, basic math skills are required for planning.the quantity of food items required, depending on the number of people.mathematics is also useful to calculate the amount of money required to buy various food items.
According to you, which is the most important way maths is useful in the kitchen?
A knowledge of mathematics is required for conversions, which play an important role in cooking.
How do you measure your ingredients while baking/cooking?
I usually measure ingredients using cups, tablespoons and teaspoons since weighing scales are expensive and hard to find near the home.
Thank you so much!
You are welcome.

Do you use mathematics in your daily life?
Yes!absolutely.
How do you use it in your daily life?
Well, I am a student so i obviously have a lot of maths to do at school but i love to bake and i use maths in converting recipes meant for a large number of people to recipes for a small group.
Do you think maths is important?
Yes, i think everyone should have a basic knowledge of maths.
Thanks for helping us out!
Anytime.

OUR RESEARCH
For our research,we decided to focus on the importance of the right proportions and measurements of ingredients in order to achieve the right result.
EXPERIMENT 1
For the first experiment, we decided to show the importance of the right proportions. We decided to make rotis in two ways-one by taking the right proportion and the other by taking the incorrect proportion.
Recipe-we chose to make a roti because of how it is something all indians consume on a daily basis and how its recipe only involves two main ingredients. 3 cups whole wheat flour,1/1 and a half cups of water,1/2 teaspoon of salt to taste,1-2 teaspoon oil(optional).
CONCLUSION-we found that the roti with the proper measurement and proportions was soft, round and easy to eat and chew whereas the roti with the incorrect measurements and proportions was hard, irregular in shape and not edible.

EXPERIMENT 2
we decided to force on the importance of measurements this time so we are making pancakes in two ways, first we are going to add all the ingredients vaguely and second,we are going to follow the recipe to the tea.
Recipe-1/2 cup of flour,1/4th cup of water, one teaspoon of milk.
again,we decided to go for a simple and common recipe as we wanted to emphasize on the how measurements of ingredients are important even in the most simple recipes.
conclusion:we found that the pancakes that had proper measurements were perfectly round, had a brown ideal colour and where not too thick or too thin whereas the pancake without the measurements were irregular in shape, was whitish-brown and stuck to the pan.It was very difficult to make them as well.
COLLABORATION WITH THE NETHERLANDS
well, our colaboartion with netherlands did'nt go through very well,we spoke a lot with them before but later found that they did'nt make any initiative to talk with us and many a times, did not answer our questions. however,we felt that they were very dedicated to their research.
They were experimenting with the affects of baking powder.they found that the cupcakes with too much baking powder were delicious and looked good from the outside whereas the cupcakes with less baking powder were not so nice.

CONCLUSION
These experiments helped us undstand that measurements and proportions are very important in arecipe and drastically affect how a dish turns out.
EACH MEMBERS CONTRIBUTION AND REFLECTION
Shaina-incharge of the website(group leader)
Keyaa-conducted the experiment on pancakes.
Sahana-conducted the experiment on the rotis.
Daksh-took an interview and shot the videos
Nandini-took an interview and edited all the videos
We are very grateful to our teachers who gave us an opportunity to not only interact with the dutch children but also conduct experiments on cooking and baking-two things we love dearly. We tried to keep our calm and do be on time with our work but sometimes could'nt communicate effectively. We want to thank Keyaa and Sahana for providing us with all the ingredients and a place to do the experiment.
